Ninigret Pond - Charlestown RI Project Challenge

Habitat restoration and beach nourishment.

Ninigret Pond, a tidal, saltwater pond, and previous area of live eel grass beds and juvenile fish breeding and habitat areas, had shoaled in over the years.

The Army Corp designed an environmental restoration project to remove 40,000 cyds from existing sedimentation basin to relieve delta shoaling in saltwater pond and remove 200,000 cyds of sand from shoaled previously live eel grass beds to prepare areas for replanting and restoration.

Shoaled materials were dredged and pumped over 6000 feet to Charlestown Beach for beach nourishment.
